Very good news that Nikko Racing is sponsoring the 'Academy' Undecided side in 2010, and that there will be more meetings for the youngsters.

With that in mind can a little more be done to promote the second half during the main meeting, after all with Niall Strudwick and Adam Kirby likely to figure we do have our No 8 & 9 riding in the second half! Two riders who will hopefully progress to be future Fen Tigers!

It would be good if more people stayed and supported them but often it is uncertain what is happening and during the gap between the end of the main meeting and the commencement of the second half nothing much is said and many choose to leave.

I am intending to speak with the programme editor to try and feature the 'Academy' lads a little more, even if it is just results and a brief couple of lines on the previous meeting.

Hopefully the sound will be more consistent this year which will help get the message out.

As I say, just a thought Smiley

Agree Phil.  It was obvious to all how much Adam Kirby improved last season when he started to get some 'real' races for the Academy/Cubs.  It is unfortunate that after a busy start to the season for the junior team it all rather fizzled out.  I expect both riders to improve further this year, and wouldn't be surprised to see them knocking on the door of a reserve berth spot before too long.  I hope we can get some regular 2nd half racing and that this will promoted to and supported by the fans on the terraces.

Hi Phil

I will certaintly be working hard with Blayne, Ray and John to promote to Academy team in 2010.

One idea is run a competition for junior fans to get them involved with the Academy as it makes sense to run something specific for the youngsters in conjuntion with the Academy and I will speak to the Management about this soon.

I know Blanye wants to run more Academy meetings this coming season and has the full support of Ray & John so lets hope for a regular set of meetings.

Good thoughts Phil.  Great if we could get results and a brief round up in the programme as I usually miss the second halves because writing my report, so being able to catch up would be useful and in turn I could get something in the paper.

Yep Phil
Some very good thoughts for the Academy Team 2010, we don't normally stop for any 2nd half racing, and I'm not going to say that we will, however I do believe that every effort possible should be taken to ensure that our younger lads get ALL the opportunity they can to improve and the only way they will achieve this is by racing. I am sure that "The Management" will do their upper most to ensure this happens.

We'll have to get some team photos of the academy side this year too.

There were suggestions last year that they should go under the banner of "Fen Tiger Cubs", which seemed to meet with widespread approval, and would give an air of credibility and worth-staying-to-watchness.  Any thoughts?

That would be great Sequella I know the team would appreciate it.

With regards to the Academy v Fen Tiger Cubs question, although the decision is not mine to make, I do know that when asked last year the lads didnt particully like to be called "cubs" or "juniors" as they are riders in their own right and prefered Academy. I believe the management feel the same, perhaps Blayne can confirm?

From a personal point of view the Cubs sounds a bit like an under 8's football team these days, i much prefer the Academy name and i know the riders liked it too.

Cheers

There is now a page on the Nikko Racing website (www.nikkoracing.co.uk) for the Academy which will cover news/photos/fixtures etc.

I hope everyone will support the Adademy this year as we are putting in alot of time and effort into making this a success.

Blayne is working hard on getting the team sorted and I have spoken to Ray and John to ensure that the Academy team are an intregal part of the Fen Tigers "team" this season. They are the future of the club and the mission is to bring on as many assets as possible.

I will be practicing with some of the Nikko Racing riders this weekend (weather permitting) and they are all very keen to progress.

We are working very hard to get the team as many meetings as possible and there may be some good news on this soon.....
